Lubaina Himid has been creating politically-driven, vivid art bringing forgotten stories to life, throughout her career, spanning four decades. After making history herself in 2017, when she became the oldest artist and first black woman to win the Turner Prize Vogue magazine’s Sarah Crompton travelled to Preston, where she has lived since 1991, to meet the Zanzibar-born creative, who has been spotlighting the legacies of the African diaspora since the beginning of her career.
