Turner Prize winner Lubaina Himid’s artworks fill in the gaps that history leaves behind.
The British artist Lubaina Himid’s series of paintings based upon Le Rodeur, a symbol of the entire Atlantic slave trade, calls for us to speak the unspeakable. The paintings are not straightforward depictions or even representations of the historical events in any conventional sense, but an invocation of emotion and ‘traces of crimes’.
