After winning the Turner Prize in 2017, the work of artist Lubaina Himid has received further recognition by being made a member of the prestigious Royal Academy of Arts.
Lubaina was recently awarded a CBE in the 2018 Queens Honours List, having been previously awarded an MBE in 2010 for services to black women’s art. Known mostly for her work as a painter, Lubaina also curates exhibitions and provides opportunities for lesser known artists to have their work seen. She has exhibited in various prestigious galleries over many years, with a number in the past 18 months around the UK, Europe and in New York. She is also Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire.

Alongside winning the Turner Prize being elected a member of the Royal Academy is a great honour in the world of the visual arts in Britain, I hope I can make a difference.
