In an interview with iNews a week after her Turner Prize win, Lubaina Himid describes her win as “a box that needed ticking” and referring to the increased age limit in 2017 and being the first black woman to win the award she explained “I just happened to tick every box there is to tick”. She is, however, embracing this new platform as an opportunity to engage with museums and galleries about developing their relationship with artists and audiences that might hitherto have felt less welcome.
